Shoulder belt plate, 8th Bombay Native Infantry, pre-1901
Brass badge in the form of an eight-pointed, broad-armed star; the regimental number in Roman numerals, 'VIII', within a circlet containing a wreath, above a scroll bearing the title, 'Hyderabad'.
The 8th Bombay Native Infantry was formed in 1824 from the 2nd Battalion, 4th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry. The term 'Native' was dropped from its title in 1885. In the reform of the Indian Army in 1903 the regiment became the 108th Infantry Regiment. In 1922 the regiment formed the 3rd Battalion of the 4th Bombay Grenadiers, finally disbanding in 1930.
