Button, 23rd Regiment of Bombay Native (Light) Infantry, 1841-1889
Large, gilt metal button by Firmin and Sons Limited, London, with bugle horn encircling regimental number, '23', with branch of leaves, surmounted by an Imperial Crown.
The 23rd Regiment of Bombay Native (Light) Infantry was originally formed in 1820 as the 1st Battalion, 12th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry. The regiment became the 23rd Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry in 1824 and the 23rd Regiment of Bombay Native (Light) Infantry in 1841. With the reform of the Indian Army in 1903 the regiment became the 123rd Outram's Rifles.
