Shoulder title, 11th (Rajput) Regiment of Bengal Infantry, pre-1901

Brass badge in the form of the regimental number, '11'.

Originally raised as the 2nd Extra Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry in 1825, the regiment became the 70th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry in 1828. The regiment became the 12th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry in 1861 and was renumbered the 11th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry in the same year. The term 'Native' was dropped from the title in 1885 and the term 'Rajput' added in 1897. Reform of the Indian Army in 1901 and 1903 led to the name changes, 11th Rajput Infantry and 11th Rajputs respectively. The unit became the 5th Battalion 7th Rajput Regiment in 1922.
