The 27th Regiment (1st Belooch Battalion) Bombay (Light) Infantry was originally raised in 1844 as the Scinde Bellochee Corps. After loyal service during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859), the regiment became the 27th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry or 1st Baluch Regiment in 1861. The regiment was renamed the 27th Regiment (1st Belooch Battalion) Bombay (Light) Infantry in 1888 and became the 27th Regiment (1st Baluch Battalion) Bombay (Light) Infantry or 27th Baluchis in 1892. The unit was renamed the 27th Baluch Light Infantry in 1901. The regiment fought in the Abyssinian (1867-1868), the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880) and in the 3rd Burma War (1885-1887).
