Cap badge, 1st Battalion, 12th Frontier Force Regiment, 1922-1945

Silver badge, hallmarked 1925, with crown over circlet inscribed, 'First P.W.O. Sikhs', Prince of Wales's feathers in centre, with scroll beneath bearing the unit title, '12th Frontier Force Regt'.

The 12th Frontier Force Regiment was formed in 1922 drawing on elements of the Punjab Irregular Force. It comprised of four regular battalions drawn from Sikh regiments and a fifth regular battalion and a 10th (training) battalion formed from the two infantry battalions of the Corps of Guides. The 1st Battalion was named, 1st Battalion (Prince of Wales' Own Sikhs). Further battalions were raised during World War Two (1939-1945). In 1945 the unit was renamed the Frontier Force Regiment.
