Field cap badge, 2nd (Hill) Sikh Infantry, 1901-1903

Silver plate badge in the form of a bugle horn suspended by knotted cord, with an intertwined scroll bearing the unit title, 'Sikh Infty', above the regimental number, '2nd'.

The 2nd (Hill) Sikh Infantry was formed in 1901 from the 2nd (or Hill) Regiment of Sikh Infantry of the Punjab Frontier Force which had served in the 2nd Afghan War (1878-1880). The Regiment served in Somaliland in 1902. It was renamed the 52nd Sikhs (Frontier Force) in 1903 and fought in World War One (1914-1918). It then became the 2nd Battalion of the 12th Frontier Force Regiment in 1922, serving in the Far East during World War Two (1941-1945).
