Pouch badge, officer, 7th Regiment of Bengal Irregular Cavalry, 1841-1861
Gilt badge in the form of an eight-pointed star with the regimental number in Roman numerals, 'VII', within a circlet, inscribed with the unit title, 'Bengal Irregular Cavy'.
The 7th Irregular Cavalry was raised at Bareilly in 1841. In 1861 the regiment became the 5th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry and was renamed again in 1901, as the 5th Bengal Cavalry, losing the 'Bengal' title in 1903. In 1922 the unit amalgamated with the 8th Lancers, previously the 17th Cavalry, to form the 3rd Cavalry.
