Pugri badge, 65th Carnatic Light Infantry, 1903-1904
Brass badge with wreathed circlet inscribed 'Carnatic Light Infantry' and 'Pegu' surmounted by crown. In the centre the unit's number in Roman numerals, 'LXV', above a bugle horn.
The 65th Carnatic Light Infantry was formed in 1903 from the 5th Madras Infantry. The unit's origin went back to 1759 and the raising of the 6th Battalion of Coast Sepoys. The regiment was disbanded in 1904. 'Pegu' refers to the 5th Madras Infantry's battle honour from the 2nd Burma War (1852-1853).
