Cap badge, Assam Regiment, 1941-1947
Anodised aluminium badge in the form of a rhinoceros over a scroll, with a unit tile, 'Assam Regt'.
The Assam Regiment was raised during World War Two (1939-1945) by Lieutenant-Colonel Ross Howman in 1941. The unit was raised in light of the threat to British India from the Japanese and saw action in Burma, fighting in the epic battle of Kohima. The regiment, which survives as part of the Indian Army, retains the emblem of the Indian Rhinoceros.
From the Field Marshal Sir John Chapple Indian Army Collection.
