Dehra Dun is the state capital of Uttarakhand in northern India.The Dehra Dun Mounted Rifles was a British Indian Army auxiliary unit originally formed in 1885 as part of the Bengal Command's Volunteer Corps. The 2nd (Northern) Regiment United Provinces Horse was formed from the Dehra Dun Mounted Rifles and the Naini Tal Volunteer Rifles in 1909, and became the 8th (Northern Regiment) United Provinces Horse in 1917.
