Silver plate button, made by J H Johnson and Company, Aligarh, United Provinces. East Indian Railway crest within garter bearing the unit title, 'E.I. Railway Volunteer Rifles'.
The East Indian Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps was an auxiliary unit formed in July 1869 as part of the British Indian Army's Bengal Command. It drew on civilian staff of the East Indian Railway and its headquarters was at Jamalpur, the location of the East Indian Railway's locomotive workshops. The unit was amalgamated with the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway Battalion in 1926.
