Pouch belt plate, Bombay Volunteer Rifles, 1877-1901
Silver badge in the form of a garter bearing the unit title encircling a Star of India, surrounded by wreath and surmounted by crown.
The Bombay Volunteer Rifle Corps was formed in 1877. Rules of the Corps stated that volunteers should be British or Eurasian, respectable and 'of good character', and, unless joining as cadets, should be aged 16 years or older and of a height of 5 foot 2 inches or above.
