Button, South Indian Railway Battalion, 1920-1947
Brass, medium-sized button made by J R Gaunt and Son Limited, London, with an elephant within a circlet bearing the unit title, 'The S.I.R. Battalion', surrounded by a wreath and surmounted by a King's Crown.
The South Indian Railway Battalion was formed as the South Indian Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps in 1884. In 1917 it became the 29th South Indian Railway Battalion and then in 1920 it dropped the number from its name.
