Cap badge, Upper Burma Volunteer Rifles, 1886-1942

The Upper Burma Volunteer Rifles was raised in 1886 as an auxiliary unit. The unit was renamed the 34th Upper Burma Battalion on 1 April 1917. The Auxiliary Force (India) (AFI), created in 1920, was formed of Contingents of European and Anglo-Indian soldiers. The AFI was a volunteer force that was modelled on the Territorial Force in Britain. The Upper Burma Battalion was transferred to the Burma Auxiliary Force in 1937.
