Helmet badge, Cossipore Artillery Volunteers, 1884-1917
White metal badge in the form of a wreath encircling an artillery piece surmounted by a grenade, with a scroll bearing the unit title, 'Cossipore Artillery Volunteers'.
Raised in 1884, the Cossipore Field Brigade was an auxiliary Indian unit. It was redesignated the Cossipore Artillery Volunteers in 1888 and was eventually amalgamated to form the Bengal Artillery (Auxiliary Force India) in 1925. Volunteers from the Cossipore Artillery Volunteers served with the Calcutta Volunteer Battery in East Africa during World War One (1914-1918).
