Button, 30th Lancers (Gordon's Horse), 1903-1922

Medium-sized, brass button by Jennens and Company, London, with the regimental number in Roman numerals, 'XXX', at the intersection of crossed lances.

The 30th Lancers (Gordon's Horse) was formed in 1903 from the 4th Lancers, Hyderabad Contingent. The regiment was originally raised in 1826 as the 4th Regiment of Nizam's Cavalry by Sir John Gordon. The regiment became the 4th Cavalry, Hyderabad Contingent, in 1854. The regiment remained loyal to the British during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859).

The regiment served on the Western Front during World War One (1914-1918) and was amalgamated with the 26th King George's Own Light Cavalry in 1921, forming the 26th/30th King George's Own Light Cavalry. The following year the regiment was renamed the 8th King George's Own Light Cavalry.
