Letter from Lieutenant Standish O'Grady to his father the 1st Viscount Guillamore, 1 April 1815
In this short letter, postmarked London O'Grady, relates that his regiment, the 7th (The Queen's Own) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, is still waiting for orders to move and expresses some doubt that this may come due to Bonaparte's public statements about maintaining the peace of 1814. He also refers to a new order that cavalry troops will have their baggage moved in wagons rather than at their own expense, which has 'created a sensation in the Reg't'. He also implies he came close to becoming engaged but that the order for service had disrupted this.
From a collection of 45 letters associated with Lieutenant-Colonel Standish O'Grady, later 2nd Viscount Guillamore 1813-1830. These include those written whilst serving as a lieutenant with the 7th Light Dragoons in the Peninsular War (1808-1814) and at Waterloo (1815).
