Button, 4th Bengal Sepoys, 1775-1784
Brass, large, flat, circular button, with the Honorable East India Company lion holding crown with the unit abbreviation, '4 BS'.
Part of the East India Company's Bengal Army, the 4th Bengal Native Infantry was renumbered in 1824 but its origins went back to 1759 with the raising of unit in Midnapore. When the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) broke out, the regiment was disarmed at Kangra and Noorpore. After the mutiny, the unit title was given to the 33rd Bengal Native Infantry which later became the 4th Bengal Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry.
