Major-generals usually commanded brigade size formations. At Waterloo (1815) for example, the 5th Brigade of the 3rd Division was commanded by Major-General Sir Colin Halkett and consisted of battalions from the 30th, 33rd, 69th and 73rd Regiments of Foot.
