This photograph was taken in England prior to Operation OVERLORD, the invasion of mainland Europe in June 1944. Peter Powell was nicknamed 'Pootle'. As with a number of officers in the Sharpshooters, he rose from the ranks, becoming a captain, and was awarded the Military Medal during World War Two.
