Three harness bosses, 1854 (c)

These bosses were used by Major Thomas Everard Hutton, 4th (The Queen's Own) Light Dragoons during the Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava in October 1854. Made of hollow domed brass on brown leather backing, the bosses were worn on the horse's leather bridle or body harness. After receiving 11 wounds during the Charge, Hutton's horse had to be destroyed.

Hutton himself was shot through the right thigh during the advance of the Light Brigade and on returning from the guns he was again severely wounded through the left thigh.
