The Battle of Stalingrad (1942-1943) was the turning point in the history of World War Two. The Axis powers suffered around 850,000 casualties and never recovered from the defeat inflicted upon them by the Red Army. After months of bitter fighting, Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus' Sixth Army surrendered to the Soviets on 2 February 1943.
