Helmet badge, South Indian Railway Battalion, 1920-1947

White metal badge with an elephant within a circlet bearing the unit title, 'South Indian Railway Battalion', surrounded by an open-work wreath, surmounted by a King's Crown.

The South Indian Railway Battalion was formed as the South Indian Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps in 1884. In 1917 it became the 29th South Indian Railway Battalion and then in 1920 it dropped the number from its name.
